Argentina – 1,182,100 L
Argentina is the world’s fifth biggest wine maker, after Italy, Spain, France, and the United States. Most of Argentina’s wine comes from Mendoza, a province that makes over 60% of the country’s wine. Mendoza’s hot, dry weather and high elevation make it perfect for growing grapes. The famous Mendoza Malbec makes up 85% of all the Malbec produced in Argentina. They also grow a lot of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Bonarda. Other places in Argentina where they make wine include San Juan, La Rioja, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Pampa, and Rio Negro. The first vineyards in Argentina were planted by Spanish settlers, who planted grapes near their monasteries to make wine for church ceremonies.
