Known as Anakin Skywalker in the original trilogy and the main antagonist of the original series, Darth Vader is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe and also known as one of the biggest evil movie villains of all time. Anakin, a Jedi who was once a slave on Tatooine, was supposed to restore balance to the Force.
Chancellor Palpatine tricks him into joining the evil side of the Force, whereupon he takes on the name Darth Vader and becomes a Sith Lord. Following a lightsaber fight on Mustafar with his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vader undergoes a metamorphosis into a cyborg, serving the Galactic Empire for more than twenty years. In the end, he makes up for his sins by murdering Palpatine and rescuing his son, Luke Skywalker.
Vader has been portrayed by numerous actors, including David Prowse, James Earl Jones, Sebastian Shaw, Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, Rogue One, and various iterations of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. He is known for his calm and level-headed nature, low tolerance for failure, and cold-blooded nature, with a deep-seated hatred for his master Darth Sidious.
