Indonesian Navy
The Indonesian Navy was established on 10 September 1945, following Indonesia’s declaration of independence. The navy’s primary role is to patrol Indonesia’s coastline and protect its maritime interests. It also carries out military, police, and diplomatic roles.
- The Indonesian Navy has a fleet of 213 ships, including 11 major surface combatants, 72 patrol and coastal combatants, 11 ships for mine warfare and mine countermeasures, 5 major amphibious ships, 26 landing ships, 54 landing craft, 2 submarines, and 32 logistics and support vessels.
- The Indonesian Navy has been involved in several conflicts, including the Indonesian National Revolution, the West Irian dispute, the East Timor conflict, and the Aceh insurgency.
- The Indonesian Navy is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Western Pacific Naval Symposium.
- The Indonesian Navy is headed by the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy. The current Chief of Staff is Admiral Yudo Margono.
