About Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI)
In India, a statutory advisory body works for the welfare of animals whose name is the Animal Welfare Board of India which promotes animal welfare in the country. It was established in 1962 under the guidance of the late, renowned humanitarian Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. The headquarters of AWBI is in Ballabhgarh ,Haryana .
Mandate:
- It establishes guidelines for the humane treatment of animals worldwide.
- It has also regularly sued for stronger legislation to guarantee that animals were not subjected to excessive harassment or abuse.
Membership:
- The Board is composed of legislators, campaigners for animal rights, and representatives of several government agencies.
- Twenty-eight people make up the board.
- Members serve staggered terms in office.
World Animal Welfare Day
World Animal Welfare Day was created in 1931 to draw attention to the predicament of endangered species during an ecologists’ meeting in Florence, Italy. The main goal of this day is to harmonize global standards and assistance for animal welfare. The day encourages participation from people, groups, and organizations that love and care for animals. For this reason, it’s also known as “Animal Lovers Day.”
