Brief History of GAIL
- 1984: GAIL was incorporated on August 16, 1984, as a central public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG).
- 1986: the first cross-country natural gas pipeline in India Hazira-Vijaypur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) pipeline was commissioned in 1986. This was one of the largest cross-country natural gas pipeline projects in the world.
- 1991: GAIL started city gas distribution operations in Delhi.
- 2002: GAIL’s name was changed to GAIL (India) Limited.
- 2011: GAIL India received an Award for the Outstanding PSU of the Year.
GAIL Full Form
GAIL Full Form: GAIL is a central public sector undertaking under the ownership of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. GAIL is India’s largest natural gas processing and distribution company. It is headquartered in New Delhi. GAIL is listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). GAIL in India is one of the top companies in India and is the biggest company in the field of Petrol and Gas.
GAIL was incorporated in 1984 to lay down the infrastructure of gas supply in India. The company has since become a significant player in the natural gas industry in India. It owns and operates a network of around 15,413 km of natural gas pipelines spread across the length and breadth of the country. It also has interests in liquefied natural gas (LNG), petroleum products, and city gas distribution.
