Cyclone Biparjoy
Exceptionally Powerful Cyclonic Storm A strong and unpredictable tropical cyclone called Biparjoy developed over the east-central Arabian Sea. Biparjoy, the second cyclonic storm and third depression of the 2023 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, began as a depression that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) first detected on June 6 and then intensified into a cyclonic storm. The deep flaring convection caused the cyclone to gradually diminish. Biparjoy quickly strengthened into an extremely strong cyclonic storm and a tropical cyclone equivalent to a Category 3. On June 16, the storm touched down near Naliya, India. Late on June 19, Biparjoy was degraded to a depression and then into a well defined area of low pressure.
