Election of Lok Sabha Members
In India, “First Past the Post” voting is used to choose members of the Lok Sabha. Each constituency in the country elects one MP. Candidates for office must be Indian citizens who are at least 25 years old. Following an intense period of campaigning, people in each constituency cast their ballots, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins the right to represent that area in Parliament.
The second-largest party forms the opposition, while the party or coalition with the majority of seats forms the government. A democratic representation of the people’s will in the Indian Parliament is ensured by this electoral procedure.
