Manipuri dance is renowned for its graceful, fluid movements, expressing themes of love and devotion, particularly through the tales of Radha and Krishna. Manipur is a state in North-eastern India with the origin of classical dance known as “Manipuri dance”. It occupies a prominent position in Indian classical dance traditions. The true essence of Manipuri dance is very well explained in Shlok as mentioned below-
“मणिपुरी नृत्य सुन्दरम्, मधुर वदन प्रियम्,
आनन्द रस भावौघम्, सन्नतम् सफलम् नृत्यम्।”
The above-mentioned lines mean that Manipuri dance has immense vibrations of emotions expressed with grace using footwork, gentle hand gestures, and facial expressions. Manipuri dance involves the use of instruments like the pung and flute which reflect cultural legacy making their dance an entrancing tradition.
