First Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh
Yashwant Singh Parmar was the first chief minister of Himachal Pradesh. He was born on 4 August 1906 in Chanalag village in the princely state of Sirmaur. His father was a secretary of the ruler of Sirmaur. He received his early education from Nahan High School he did a B.A. (Honours), LL.B and an M.A. in 1926 and PhD on polyandry in 1944. He began his political career as a magistrate of the Sirmaur court from 1930 to 1937 and later served as a session judge from 1937 to 1940. He joined the Indian National Congress and actively participated in the freedom struggle.
After India’s independence in 1947, he played a crucial role in advocating for the formation of a separate state for Himachal Pradesh. He is also known as the Creator of Himachal Pradesh. He has served as chief minister of Himachal Pradesh for two terms.
