Functions of Quick Access Toolbar

The primary purpose of quick access toolbar is to provide quick and easy access to frequently used commands and features, allowing users to streamline their workflow and enhance productivity. Here’s what you need to know:

Customization and Personalization: The QAT is highly customizable. You can configure it to include any commands and options you want from the application’s tabs. Anything you add to the QAT is shown at all times, regardless of the currently displayed ribbon tab.

You can simply click or tap a button on the QAT to execute the corresponding action directly.

Default Commands: By default, the QAT contains only two buttons and an arrow that opens a drop-down menu. The following six default commands are available:

Undo: Rolls back the last change you made to the active window.

Redo: Redoes the previously undone action.

Delete: Sends selected items to the Recycle Bin.

Properties: Opens the selected file or folder’s Properties window (enabled by default and displayed first).

New Folder: Creates a new folder in the active File Explorer window.

Position and Appearance: The QAT is located on the extreme left of the application window (e.g., File Explorer title bar). You can also move it below the ribbon if you prefer. The QAT’s minimalistic design ensures it doesn’t clutter the interface.

Customization Menu: Clicking or tapping the arrow on the QAT opens the “Customize Quick Access Toolbar” menu. In this menu, you can reveal the complete set of default commands. Check or uncheck commands to display or hide them in the QAT.

The Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) is a small customizable toolbar situated at the top of Windows Office application. It serves as a repository for frequently used commands, which can be accessed from virtually any part of the application, irrespective of the currently open ribbon tab.

By default, the QAT contains a predefined set of default commands, but you can extend it with your preferred actions. You can add your own commands, customize the order of existing commands, and even incorporate macros.

If you prefer, you can move the QAT below the ribbon to bring it closer to the worksheet area. Additionally, you can export your customizations and import them elsewhere.
