History of Daughters Day Celebration
The history of Daughters’ Day can be traced back to India, when it was first celebrated in 2007. Ramchandra Siras, a social activist, founded this day in order to raise awareness of the value of girls and women in society. After he heard a story about a man who had killed his baby daughter because he wanted a son, Being appalled by this story, Siras wanted to do something to change the way that girls and women are valued in society; therefore, he came upon the idea of dedicating a day for girls and daughters.
Initially, Daughters’ Day was celebrated only in India, but afterwards it spread to other countries around the world. In 2015, the United Nations recognised Daughters Day as an international observance. Now, Daughters’ Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September each year. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of girls and women and to raise awareness of the challenges that they face.
