History of FBI
Thе Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was established in 1908 as the “Bureau of Investigation” within thе U.S. Department of Justice. Later inn 19335 its anme was offically changed to FBI. J. Edgar Hoover’s was appointment as its first Director in 1924, who served for nearly five decades. Under his leadership, the FBI expanded its influence and authority, taking on organized crime, civil rights cases, and investigating subversivе activities during the Red Scare. The prominence of FBI grew significantly during and after World War II, especially in relation to counterintelligence and national security. The FBI now investigate cases of domestic security threats, counterespionage, and the fight against organized crime.
The FBI’s responsibilities got expanded through the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement. Now it is involved in investigating civil rights violations cases also. In the post-9/11 era, it shifted its focus to counterterrorism, becoming a key player in homeland security and national security investigations, while also addressing cybercrimе and other federal offenses.
