History of UIDAI

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority that comes under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It was established in January 2009. UIDAI was issued The first Aadhaar card in Tembhli village in Maharashtra In September 2010. Since then, the UIDAI has issued over 1.2 billion Aadhaar cards. The Indian government passed the Aadhaar Act in 2017, which provided a legal framework for  Aadhaar enrolment, authentication, operation, and management of Aadhaar.
