How tall is the Pyramid of Giza?
The northernmost and oldest pyramid of the group called the Great Pyramid, is the largest of the three, the length of each side at the base averaging 755.75 feet (230 metres) and its original height being 481.4 feet (147 metres). The middle and the second pyramid measures 707.75 feet (216 metres) on each side and was originally 471 feet (143 metres) high. The southernmost and last pyramid measures 356.5 feet (109 metres) on each side and the structure’s completed height was 218 feet (66 metres).
Egyptian Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids of Giza are one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. These ancient structures were built as tombs for the pharaohs during the Old Kingdom period of Egyptian history, around 2580–2560 BCE. There is a place called the Giza pyramid complex or Giza necropolis. It has the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their structures and the Great Sphinx. All of these were constructed in ancient Egypt during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid among the Pyramids of Giza and served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, who ruled during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Constructed in the early 26th century BC over about 27 years, it is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only wonder that has largely remained intact. Situated at the northern end of the Giza pyramid complex, it is a prominent part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Memphis and its Necropolis.”
