How to Calculate Mid-range?

To calculate Mid Range we have to follows some few steps. They are as follows:

  • Sort the data in ascending or descending order as suggested by Statisticians
  • Find the minimum and maximum value. When sorted in ascending order, the minimum value is present at first while the maximum element is present at last. In descending order its the other way round.
  • Find the sum of minimum and maximum element.
  • Then divide the sum by 2.

Mid Range

Midrange is a simple statistical measure used to identify the central tendency of a dataset. It is calculated as the average of the maximum and minimum values in a dataset. The midrange provides a quick estimate of the center of the data distribution. The midrange is useful for a quick estimate of the central tendency when dealing with small datasets or when a rapid calculation is needed.

In this article, we will learn in detail about mid range, along with formula and, how to calculate, and how is it different from range and interquartile range.

What is Mid Range?

Mid-Range is used to find the middle most value in the data. It is defined as the sum of the maximum and minimum values divided by 2. It is also a measure of central tendency and is used to find rough estimates of the data. The midrange is a straightforward and useful measure of central tendency, particularly for a quick, rough estimate of the dataset’s center...

Is Mid-Range Sensitive to Outliers?

Outliers are data points that has a significant difference from the rest of the data points present in a particular dataset. They differ from the pattern of the data and can affect the mean of the data when calculated. As mid-range is basically average of two data points, it is affected by outliers. Let us consider a simple example....
