India’s own strategies toward climate action
India hosted the annual climate change conference called COP (Conference of Parties) earlier in COP 8 in 2002.Then,the scale of this conference used to be much smaller, unlike the most high-profile annual event that has evolved into now,attracting the attendance of over 100 heads of state and government, etc. India was among the very few large economies that were on track to fulfill their climate commitments.
PM Modi Proposes to host COP 33 Summit in 2028 in India
India PM Narendra Modi attended the COP 28 (Conference of Parties) hosted by the UAE from November 30 to December 12, 2023. Expecting over 70,000 delegates, the conference’s main aim is to accelerate the shift to renewable energy and reduce emissions.
PM Modi made a significant announcement given climate action commitments to meet global protection, so he proposed to host the 2028 climate change conference the 33rd edition in India. He said this is part of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the world. He also said that developing countries must get appropriate access to the remaining global carbon budget.
