Lists of Districts in Assam
The state of Assam has been divided into 35 administrative districts. The boundaries between the districts are established by natural features like hills, rivers, woods, etc. Deputy Commissioners have responsibility for charge of each district. In the majority of instances, an officer from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is appointed as Deputy Commissioner, however, officials from the Assam Civil Service (ACS) are also appointed on occasion.

List of Districts in Assam 2024
List of Districts in Assam: The Assam state includes 35 administrative units which are headed by a Deputy Commissioner. The borders of these districts are based on geographical characteristics such as hills, rivers, and woods; many of the newly formed districts are subdivisions of the ones that have been around longer. Three new districts—Charaideo, South Salmara-Mankachar, and West Karbi Anglong—were added on August 15, 2015, bringing the total to 27. Subsequently, Majuli was officially established as a district on June 27, 2016, becoming the first river island district in India.
