The Ministry of AYUSH was formed on November 9, 2014, to ensure optimal development and propagation of AYUSH systems of health care. Earlier, it was known as the Department of Indian System of Medicine & Homoeopathy (ISM&H), which was created in March 1995 and renamed the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November 2003. In China and Japan, homoeopathy is almost unknown.
During World War II, Malaysia was introduced to homoeopathy by the Indian military personnel that formed the bulk of the British army in Asia.
