The partial discharge test, also referred to as PD Test, is a crucial test used to assess the insulation health of material used in electrical equipment.
The partial discharge is nothing but a localized electrical breakdown that occur within the insulation material used in equipment. This type of breakdown degrades the quality of insulation over time and eventually leads to equipment failure. To detect and monitor these partial discharges, we use the partial discharge test.
