Pre-Exam Study Strategy

As the exam approached, I faced a common dilemma: should I cram lots of info or focus on understanding deeply? I chose the second option. Instead of just memorizing, I spent time really getting what the topics meant. Syllabus wise topic clearing helped a lot during the exam. I used practice questions and old PYQs to see what to expect, but my main goal was understanding.

MAKAUT First-Year Engineering Exam Experience

Hello everyone, I am a B Tech student at B P Poddar Institute of Management & Technology (BPPIMT), Kolkata. This is an Engineering College in Kolkata affiliated under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). Currently, I am at the end of my second year, but I still remember the day the first time I appeared for the 1st year-1st semester examination in 2022. It was a mix of excitement and nerves because everything was new to me as it is my first university-level exam. Thanks to some advice from seniors, I managed to calm down and give it my best shot. They told me how to prepare for the exams and to just do my best, and that really helped me feel more confident. Since then, I’ve approached all my exams the same way.

Exam-Day Experience:

Finally, when I got the question paper in my hand, it was very disappointing to see all of the maximum questions were confined under two modules only. The subject was Engineering Mathematics. But the best part is that I prepared for all the topics, in fact, my seniors told me about this thing. So I did not face many problems. During the exam, there were times I felt unsure, some questions seemed really hard, like trying to untangle a big knot. Plus, I felt the pressure to finish on time. But, I remembered the practice problems I did to improve my problem-solving skills. So, I carefully explained my thinking for each question, even if I couldn’t finish it all. This way, I hoped to get some part markings for trying....

The Result-Out Day:

When I got back to college after the semester break, everything seemed fine. We had exciting new engineering core subjects, and the atmosphere was buzzing with energy. One day evening, I was enjoying a web series in my mobile, then suddenly, a friend rushed up to me with news that the results were out. I felt nervous again, worried that I hadn’t done well. But when I checked, I found out I passed all my exams and got a 9.1 SGPA in my first semester. It was a huge relief and joy for me. And MAKAUT, they always create suspense about the result date in each sem and every time they break it suddenly…...

Here are some easy tips from my experience:

Try new stuff in your first year but don’t mesh up. From the start focus on studies, go to classes, and take clear notes. It helps on the day before the exam. Spend extra time studying on weekends. Like, an hour for each subject or according to your need. This worked for me: going to classes in day and studying that same topic at night helped me to get good grades. Specially, if you are a MAKAUT student: make a basic idea about each and every topic that we have in our syllabus. Don’t skip any single topic. This will help you in exam time. Join festivals and tech groups. Talk to senior students, they can help. Make good friends. Lastly, don’t forget to enjoy your college journey....
