Due to the High water requirement, it is grown in areas with high availability of water. Rice is a staple food in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Rice production has always been an important part of the economy of the country. India is currently the second-largest producer of rice in the world. In the last financial year, the production of rice was almost 120 million tons. Rice is grown in northeastern parts of the country, delta regions, and coastal regions.
Which region is known as the ‘Rice Bowl of India’?
Krishna- Godavari is known as the region of rice bowl in India as it produces the highest quantity of rice all over the country. The main delta of the Krishna- Godavari rivers lies in the state of Andhra Pradesh where the production is optimum and hence the state is known as the Rice Bowl state in India. Rice makes up seventy-seven percent of the total crop production.
