The scientific name of the goat is Capra aegagrus hircus which is the subspecies of the wild Capra aegagrus. In this instance, Capra is the genus and aegagrus is the species name and circus subspecies. The word Capra aegagrus has been derived from Latin Word which means nanny goat. Domestic goats have an approximate standing height of 20.1″-29.1″ (51-74 cm), a standing shoulder height of 16.1″-23.6″ (41-60 cm), an overall body length of 26.8″-39.4″ (68-100 cm), and a body width of 5.5″-8.3″ (14-21 cm). A domestic goat weighs between 12 and 220 pounds (55 and 100 kg). These animals are defined as a collection of about nine different species. These nine species originated only from the Old World.
