Traditional Chinese Clothing and Fashion
Traditional Han clothing has been worn for over three thousand years until the Ming dynasty ended. Most Chinese men wore black cotton shoes, but rich people wore tough black leather shoes for important events. Very wealthy men wore bright silk shoes sometimes with leather inside. Women wore silk shoes with holes on top for their feet, and some rich women with foot binding wore specially coated lotus shoes as a symbol of their status until the early 20th century.
In ancient China, civil and military officials had special ways to show their rank and job. One way was by wearing special badges called mandarin squares or rank badges. Another way was by wearing colorful hat knobs on their hats. The type of hat knob showed their rank, and there were twelve types representing different ranks. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, different patterns on robes also showed different ranks.
During the Qing dynasty (1644–1912), there were changes in Chinese clothing. The rise of the Manchu Qing dynasty brought new styles that were worn by noblemen and officials, and later became popular among common people too. The official headwear was different from the Ming dynasty but they still used the Mandarin square to show rank.

Traditional Chinese clothing and fashion, called Hanfu, is a special part of Chinese culture that has been around for a long time. It includes many different styles for both men and women. Women might wear a Qipao, which is a tight-fitting dress with a high collar, while men might wear a Tangzhuang suit, which is like a fancy jacket with matching pants.
These clothes often have bright colors like red and yellow, which mean good things like happiness and luck. They also have pretty designs and decorations, like embroidery and special hair accessories. Traditional Chinese clothes are worn for important events like weddings and festivals. Even though times have changed, people still love wearing Hanfu and sometimes modern clothes are made with traditional Chinese designs too.
