Understanding Modus Ponens
The Latin phrase “mode that affirms” or Modus Ponens, refers to an inference method used in classical logic. One of the most significant inference rules is the Modus Ponens rule, which says that we can infer that Q will be true if both P and P → Q are true.
The proper representation of Modus Ponens is:

where P stands for the premise “If P then Q,” Q for the conclusion “Q,” and P for the premise “P.” The hence symbol, represented by the symbol ∴, denotes the conclusion that flows from the premises.
