What are Examples of Second Lever?
The second lever is commonly used component in different machines that is very useful in our real lives. Some real-life examples of the second lever are listed below:
- Nutcracker
- Work cart
- Bottle Opener
- Stapler
- Crowbar
Nutcracker
One of the common examples of the Second Lever is a nutcracker. In this arrangement, the pivot acts as the support, the nut is set between the heap and the support, and the work is applied at the opposite end of the switch. As the work is applied, the heap (nut) is compacted, and power is applied to separate the nutshell. This instrument provides the continuous mechanical benefit to switch that removes the hard shells with negligible effort.
Work Cart
One more common examples of the Second Lever is in a handcart. The wheel acts as the support, the heap (weights taken) is put between the support and where the controller holds the handles, and the work is applied at the handles. By using the switch an individual can lift and transport heavy weights with less efforts. The longer length of handle of the work cart gives a mechanical benefit resulting the controller to apply less power to lift the heap.
Bottle Opener
The bottle opener is also one of the real-life examples of second lever. In this situation, the support is situated at the edge of the jug cap, the actual cap acts as the heap, and the work is applied at the opposite end of the switch. The container opener uses the rule of the second switch to remove the cap when a force is applied resulting in the mechanical benefit acquired by proper hold.
Stapler
The stapler also is an example of second lever as we apply force by pushing down on the highest point of the stapler to push the staple through the paper. The fulcrum of the stapler is the position where staple bends and the paper acts as the load.
Door
Door is also one of the example of second lever. The door itself is the weight; the hinges serve as the fulcrum; and the door handle or knob is the point of effort.
Crowbar
Crowbar is an example which is based on 2nd lever. The object being lifted or moved acts the load and we position the end that is below the object and apply the effort at the other end which provides the mechanical benefit with less effort.
Examples of Second Lever
Second class lever or second lever plays an important role in the different fields like in material sciences and designing etc. It has its applications in the hardware from basic to complex. The second lever is used to increase the capability of basic machines and enable them to do other tasks. In this article we will discuss the real-life examples of the second lever and explore them in detail.
