Copywriting is a the practice of writing promotional or marketing content. The content writing is used in marketing/advertising materials of the company with the goal of targeting and acquiring new customers. This content is also called as copy and thus called copywriting.
Copywriting uses persuasive or compelling phrases or words that help to hook the reader in reading it further. So it is a part of the marketing domain. It thus helps to increase brand awareness & acquire new customers.
Copywriting can be found or used in the following:
- Social media ads
- Promotional emails
- Product descriptions
Roles and Responsibilities of Copywriter:
Unlike UX writers, copywriters do not work in collaboration with the design team. Instead belong to the marketing domain/team. Copywriting position thus is a different position than UX writer.
Copywriter’s roles include creating content that communicates updates, messages, offers etc. to the targeted audience. A copy writer may write content for advertisements, website blogs, product descriptions, social media posts and more. The copywriter thus needs a good understanding of the target audience (preferences, reading level, pain points etc.) which help the company to encourage it’s users or customers to take a specific action.
The content written should be strategically written with the right tone and use of hooks like storytelling, emotional appeals or calls to actions. The copywriter should also ensure that the tone and style of content should be consistent and aligned to the brand’s identity.
