What is the TOEFL Test?
The TOEFL exam, administered by ETS (Educational Testing Services), is known as the Test of English as a Foreign Language. It’s widely accepted by universities and educational institutions in the US, Canada, and abroad. The TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) evaluates international students’ English skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, reflecting the language used in academic settings. ETS sets the TOEFL questions, administers the test, and sends score reports to test-takers. Due to the pandemic, ETS introduced the TOEFL at Home test and the TOEFL Essentials Test, ensuring a smooth testing experience for candidates.
How to convert TOEFL Scores to CEFR Levels
Converting TOEFL scores to CEFR levels helps understand how good someone is at English. It’s like comparing two different scales to see where you stand. For example, if you score around 100-110 on TOEFL, you’re likely at a level called C1 in CEFR, which means you’re pretty advanced.
If you score between 80-90 on TOEFL, you’re probably at a level called B2 in CEFR, which means you’re quite good but not as advanced as someone at C1. Remember, these conversions are close estimates, not exact matches, so take them as a general idea of your English level.
