World Press Freedom Index 2023: India
- India is ranked 161 out of 180 countries with a score of 36.62. Its position slipped by 11 ranks as compared to the 2022 report( 2022 rank was 150).
- Its position is constantly falling since 2016 (Ranked 133 in 2016).
- India was positioned 169 in political indicators while it was 144 in legislative, 155 in economic, 143 in social indicators, and 172 in the safety of journalists.
- Including three other countries( Tajikistan and Turkey) India’s position has worsened from ‘problematic’ to ‘very bad’.
